Why should you start therapy in the summer?
Summer is here! For some individuals and families, you may feel ready for summertime and looking forward to slowing down with fewer schedules and routines. Maybe you're excited for trips, slower mornings and longer days? But for some, changes in routine, a new season, and school ending can feel hard, overwhelming or unsettling.
So why is summer a good time to start therapy?
Sometimes it takes a new season or more flexibility for it to feel like the right time to make a new commitment.
Kids often have a break from extracurricular activities, no homework and can make time to commit to therapy without it feeling like another “activity” or task added to the week.
Summer is a time to reflect on what went well this “school year” and what was difficult or hard. Therapy is the perfect place to reflect, grow and challenge yourself!
Often times changes or transitions can bring out new stressors, worries, and anxieties. Therapy is a place to make time for yourself and gain support around coping with changes and what is to come. Sometimes summer can feel like an expectation verse reality for many families with everything it brings!
As summer comes to a close, many kids and adults get worried or anxious about fall coming, school starting, new grades, teachers, schools, and commitments ahead. If you started therapy in the summer, you will have the relationship with the therapist already to support you or your child as you prepare for the year ahead!
Remember, therapists understand you have trips, camps and commitments and you may not be as consistent than other seasons. That is ok! And shouldn’t stop you from reaching out!
We hope your summer brings relaxing times and new adventures! And we are here to support you during this transition time if you are ready!
Until we see you,
Jordan & The Haven Team
